48 Hours in Miami: The Perfect Weekend Itinerary (According to Locals)
Only have 48 hours in Miami? Challenge accepted.
Sure, you could spend your entire weekend on South Beach, sipping overpriced cocktails and dodging crowds. But if you really want to experience the Magic City, we recommend doing things a little differently.
Think neighborhood coffee shops, colorful street art, incredible food, vintage architecture, and nightlife that doesn't require a velvet rope.
Whether it's your first visit or your fifth, this Miami weekend itinerary takes you through some of the city's best neighborhoods, including the MiMo District, Design District, and Wynwood—all with a little local flavor.
Here's how we'd spend the perfect two days in Miami.
Day 1: Bagels, Art & a Little Miami Nightlife
9:00 AM — Start Your Morning at El Bagel
Neighborhood: MiMo District
First things first: coffee and carbs. Kick off your Miami weekend at El Bagel, a neighborhood favorite located along Biscayne Boulevard in the historic MiMo District. Known for its freshly made bagels, creative breakfast sandwiches, and excellent coffee, this local spot has developed quite the following.
Our advice? Get there early. Weekend mornings can get busy, and the best bagels are worth waking up for.
Local tip: El Bagel is just up the street from The New Yorker Hotel Miami, making it an easy breakfast stop before heading out for the day.

10:30 AM — Explore the Miami Design District
Neighborhood: Miami Design District
Next stop: one of Miami's most stylish neighborhoods.
The Miami Design District is known for luxury boutiques, contemporary architecture, public art, and beautifully designed outdoor spaces. But you don't need a designer-shopping budget to enjoy it.
Spend the morning exploring the neighborhood's public art installations, wandering through Palm Court, and discovering some of Miami's most interesting architecture.
For art lovers, the Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami (ICA Miami) is a must-visit. This contemporary art museum offers free general admission and features rotating exhibitions from internationally recognized and emerging artists.
Even if shopping isn't your thing, the Design District is worth exploring for its creativity alone.
Local tip: Reserve your free ICA Miami ticket ahead of time, especially on weekends.

1:00 PM — Lunch at Atomica
Neighborhood: Design District
After all that walking, you've earned a proper lunch.
Located inside MIA Market, Atomica is a vendor that serves truly elevated Peruvian dishes that are as luxurious and rich as upscale full-service restaurants.
Peruvian cuisine is not easy to find in most of the country but we’re proud of the offerings here in Miami. Dishes like lomo saltado, ceviche, and empanadas are must-trys when visiting town, and Atomica has some of the best in Miami.
Order a few dishes to share, settle into the comfy booth, and enjoy a little vacation within your vacation.
Local tip: Atomica is inside MIA Market Food Court so definitely check out other vendors and maybe grab an extra empanada for a snack later.
3:00 PM — Take a Dip and Recharge
Neighborhood: MiMo District
It's Miami. At some point, you're going to want a pool.
Head back to The New Yorker Hotel Miami for a little downtime. Our retro-inspired boutique hotel offers a relaxing pool and tropical courtyard that's perfect for cooling off before your evening adventures.
Grab a lounge chair, enjoy the sunshine, and recharge. You've still got a full night ahead.

7:00 PM — Dinner at ‘O Munaciello
Neighborhood: MiMo District
For dinner, we're keeping things local.
Located along Biscayne Boulevard and 64th street, ‘O Munaciello is one of the MiMo District's most distinctive dining destinations, serving delicious Neapolitan style pizza that requires a fork and knife to eat.
Expect fresh ingredients, customizable crusts (comes in regular and black charcoal), and an atmosphere that's anything but ordinary.
It's the perfect introduction to Miami's diverse culinary scene—and conveniently located near The New Yorker Hotel.
Local tip: order the cornicione di ricotta, it comes with a ricotta stuffed crust.
9:00 PM — Live Music & Cocktails at Zey Zey
Neighborhood: Little Haiti / Little River
Ready to experience Miami nightlife without the South Beach nightclub scene?
Head to Zey Zey Miami, an eclectic indoor-outdoor music venue known for live performances, DJs, tropical surroundings, and a relaxed atmosphere.
The music programming ranges from international sounds to electronic, funk, and alternative acts, depending on the night.
Check the event calendar before visiting and see who's performing during your stay.
Local tip: Some events require tickets, so planning ahead is a good idea.

Day 2: Street Art, Local Favorites & Old-School Miami
9:00 AM — Ease Into the Morning at Legion Park
Neighborhood: Upper Eastside / MiMo
After a full first day, take things a little slower.
Start your Sunday with a walk through Legion Park, a waterfront green space overlooking Biscayne Bay, just a short distance from The New Yorker Hotel Miami.
Bring a coffee either from The New Yorker Miami lobby or Caracas Bakery, enjoy the bay breeze, and watch Miami wake up.
If your itinerary starts on a Friday instead, consider visiting Legion Park's Saturday farmers market on Day 1 and rearranging your morning plans.
It's a great way to experience a quieter, more residential side of Miami.
11:00 AM — Discover the Street Art of Wynwood
Neighborhood: Wynwood
No Miami weekend itinerary would be complete without a visit to Wynwood.
Once an industrial warehouse district, Wynwood has transformed into one of Miami's most recognizable creative neighborhoods, filled with colorful murals, galleries, boutiques, breweries, and restaurants.
Start with a walk through the neighborhood to discover street art covering building walls, storefronts, and alleyways.
For a more curated experience, visit Wynwood Walls, an outdoor street art museum featuring large-scale murals by artists from around the world.
Local tip: You can enjoy plenty of street art throughout Wynwood for free, but admission to the official Wynwood Walls museum requires a ticket.

1:00 PM — Grab Lunch in Wynwood
Neighborhood: Wynwood
By now, you're probably hungry again. Luckily, Wynwood has no shortage of options.
For a relaxed lunch, check out Doya, a modern Aegean restaurant known for shareable Mediterranean dishes and its beautiful outdoor garden patio.
Or keep things casual and explore the neighborhood's cafés, pizza spots, and quick-service restaurants.
Whatever you choose, don't rush. Wynwood is one of those neighborhoods best enjoyed without a strict schedule.
3:00 PM — Discover Miami's Retro Side Along Biscayne Boulevard
Neighborhood: MiMo District
Before your weekend comes to an end, it's time for a little old-school Miami.
Head back toward the MiMo Biscayne Boulevard Historic District, one of Miami's most fascinating architectural neighborhoods.
Short for Miami Modern, MiMo is an architectural style that flourished during the 1950s and 1960s. Think futuristic motel designs, colorful neon signs, dramatic rooflines, and tropical details.
Take a stroll along Biscayne Boulevard and look for some of the area's most recognizable landmarks, including the historic Coppertone Girl sign and classic roadside buildings.
You can also stop by Jimmy's Eastside Diner, a longtime neighborhood institution featured in the Academy Award-winning film Moonlight.
It's a reminder that Miami had plenty of personality long before Instagram came along.
Local tip: Architecture lovers can dive deeper into the neighborhood's past in our blog post,
The History of Miami's MiMo Architecture District.

5:00 PM — One Last Miami Moment
Neighborhood: MiMo District
Before heading home, leave yourself a little time to enjoy the neighborhood.
Maybe that means grabbing a final cafecito, relaxing by the pool, or squeezing in one more meal along Biscayne Boulevard.
After all, the best Miami weekends aren't about checking off every tourist attraction. They're about discovering the places that make you want to come back.
And trust us, there's plenty more to discover.
Tips for Planning Your 48 Hours in Miami
Want to make the most of your Miami weekend getaway? Here are a few things locals recommend:
- Stay somewhere central. The MiMo District puts you within convenient driving distance of Wynwood, the Design District, Miami Beach, and Downtown Miami.
- Use rideshare when it makes sense. Uber and Lyft are convenient for getting between neighborhoods, especially if you're planning on enjoying cocktails.
- Make restaurant reservations. Popular Miami restaurants can fill up quickly on weekends.
- Plan outdoor activities earlier in the day. Miami's afternoon heat is no joke, especially during the summer.
- Leave room for spontaneity. Some of Miami's best discoveries happen when you wander off the itinerary.
Where to Stay for a Weekend in Miami
If you're planning a short Miami getaway, location matters.

Better yet, you're close to the restaurants, galleries, shops, and neighborhoods featured throughout this itinerary.
